Balgonie Castle

Villages surrounding Glenrothes include Coaltown of Balgonie and Milton of Balgonie. Nestling between the two villages is the historic Balgonie Castle. The Tower, the oldest still standing intact in Fife, was built for Sir Thomas Sibbald of Balgonie and is regarded as one of the finest 14th century towers in Scotland.
The keep dates from the 14th century, and the remaining structures were added piecemeal until the 18th century. The keep has been recently restored, although other parts of the castle are roofless ruins.
The Castle is now the home of the current Laird and his family. The castle is open to the public, and the restored chapel and great hall can be hired for events such as weddings. The current owners have expressed their intent to continue the restoration of the entire building.
Couples now travel from all over the world to be married in the ancient chapel.
This lovely historic building is only a few miles from the modern town of Glenrothes with all its amazing modern sculptures.
