The Boy in the Train

Many years ago when I lived on the outskirts of Glasgow, my aunt used to recite Scottish poems; one of these was "The Next Stop's Kirkcaldy". I notice you refer to this poem as The Boy in the Train. For more than 50 years now I have always thought the latter title was correct. Can you please advise. I have lived in Cheshire now for over 40 years and have just started reciting poetry again at various concerts and one of these poems is titled "The Night MacAllister Danced Before the King". Do you know this poem? It is always very well received here and has also been recited at a couple of Burns Nights, too. So pleased to have discovered your site. My late husband and I spent many happy holidays in The Kingdom of Fife, particularly in St Monans, Anstruther, Ely and St Andrews. Ah! Happy Days!.

Hi, I know this was posted a long time ago but I thought I would reply anyway....
This poem is displayed in Kirkcaldy train station cut into the very linoleum that was responsible for the"queer like smell" It is titled The Boy in the Train.
I know it word for word as it gives you something to read when the trains run late!

Hi Glenda
Please accept my apologies for being so slow to comment. Ill health has been plaguing me for weeks.
I think the poem "The Boy in the Train" is also referred to as "Next Stop Kirkcaldy" - but I'm not sure what the orginal title was. Sorry.
As for "The Night MacAllister Danced Before the King". - I don't know this Poem. If it's out of copyright, please do submit it to the site. And of course if you have any poems of your own, we'd love to read them.
Thanks for your email and wishing you the very best.
Kind regards
May
