The Lass Frae Auchtermuchty

by Frank Maguire
(England)

Jist roon the hill at Auchtermuchty
Bides a lass sae fair
She wears a dress oh Persian silk
Wae ribbons in her hair
She works the mill an spins her yarn
Frae dawn till day is done
Twining oan her spinning wheel
For a wage yet tae be won
Sae braw is she, this bonnie lass
Wae her een oh hazel broon
She is loved sae hard an chased by awe
The laddies in the toon
Maist every day she dreams her dream
As the hoors, they whittle by
Her bobbins spin as she waits till
Prince charming will come by
She wants tae be a wife tae him
An hiv a bairn or three
In a hoose that stauns upon a brae
Wae a gairdin by the sea
She’ll wait until her time is nigh
Be it days or miny years
Where she will spin her yarn sae weel
And use her pinking shears
Jist roon the hill at Auchtermuchty
Bides a lass sae fair
She wears a dress oh Persian silk
Wae ribbons in her hair

Another great Poem

What a lovely poem. Of course living in 'Muchty I'm kind of biased to its charms.
Thanks for sharing.
